EREs for owners' associations (VvE) and shared charge points: who gets the payout?

Charge points at an owners' association or on a shared car park can earn EREs too. How the scheme handles shared connections, who signs the mandate and where the payout lands.

More and more apartment buildings are getting charge points β€” on the owners' association's shared connection, or as a private charger on an individual meter in the parking garage. Since 2026 those charge points can earn EREs. The only question is: who gets the payout? The answer sits in one concept: the grid connection.

In short

  • The payout follows the EAN code of the grid connection the charge point is on.
  • Own meter β†’ own payout. Charger on your individual connection? Then you're simply a private home charger.
  • Association connection β†’ association payout. Charge points on the shared connection are registered on behalf of the association; the proceeds go to the association's funds.
  • The same requirements apply: MID meter per charge point, mandate per calendar year, one provider per EAN.

The grid connection decides everything

The Regeling energie vervoer registers charged electricity per EAN code β€” the unique number of a grid connection. Whoever controls that connection signs the mandate and receives the payout. In an owners'-association context that leaves two flavours:

  1. Your own charger on your own meter. Some parking spots have an individual connection, or the charger runs (through your apartment's meter cupboard) on your EAN. Then nothing differs from a terraced house: you sign, you receive, and your qualifying charger does the rest.
  2. Charge points on the shared connection. Many associations build shared charging infrastructure on the communal supply. The EAN then belongs to the association β€” and with it the mandate and the payout. The proceeds land in the association's funds and can for instance offset the energy costs of communal areas or lower charging rates for residents; that's up to the members' meeting.

What an association needs to arrange

  • A decision. The mandate to a registration provider is signed on behalf of the association by the authorised board; record it through the usual decision-making.
  • Qualifying charge points. Here too the built-in MID meter per charge point is the hard requirement β€” check the models before purchase or expansion.
  • One provider per EAN per calendar year, with a mandate running per full calendar year β€” the same rules as for private individuals.
  • Internal settlement. How the association splits charging costs and ERE proceeds among residents is an internal agreement; the regulation prescribes nothing there.

For residents: run the numbers

A shared charging plaza in daily use quickly charges thousands of kWh a year. The earnings calculator gives an indication of what that's worth β€” useful input for the next members' meeting. Want the business angle? See our business page.

Frequently asked questions

Can an owners' association (VvE) earn from charge points?

Yes. Charge points on the association's shared grid connection can be registered through a registration provider. The payout follows the connection and then accrues to the association.

Who signs the mandate at an owners' association?

The mandate belongs to the grid connection. For a shared association connection, the authorised board signs on behalf of the association β€” usually after a decision of the members' meeting.

I have my own charger on my own meter in the parking garage β€” how does that work?

If your charger is on your own individual grid connection (own EAN), you're simply a private home charger: you sign the mandate and the payout is yours.

Do the same requirements apply to association charge points?

Yes. On a shared connection too: a built-in MID-certified meter per charge point, one registration per EAN per calendar year and a mandate per full calendar year.
