Which Alfen models qualify?

Alfen is the best-known Dutch charger manufacturer, and for owners the answer is generous: almost the entire current range has a built-in MID-certified meter and therefore meets the core requirement for ERE registration — assured metering inside the charge point itself.

The biggest misconception concerns the Eve Single S-line. That's the model most Dutch households actually have on the wall, and it's often read as the stripped-down version of the Pro-line. For ERE that makes no difference: S-line and Pro-line share the same platform and the same MID meter. What differs is the LCD screen and the RFID reader — features for charge cards and business use, not for metering. If you have an S-line, there's nothing further to work out.

The Eve Single Plus and Eve Double Plus are the new generation on Alfen's 2025 AHP platform. They too have MID as standard, alongside OCPP 2.0.1 and readiness for bidirectional charging (V2X). The Twin 5 and Twin 5 Plus aren't home units but pedestals for semi-public and commercial locations; they also meter with MID assurance.

One exception: the Eve Mini. It is the entry model and the only current Alfen home unit without a built-in MID meter. Your charger does everything else it should, but the metering isn't assured, so it doesn't count for the NEa. Why that requirement is so strict is covered in MID meter explained. Double charge points and shared car parks

The Eve Double — both the Pro-line and the newer Plus — has two outlets. For ERE registration the metering applies per charge point; if you share the charger with a second car within your household, both belong to your grid connection. If the charger sits in a shared car park, say at an owners' association, it depends on whose grid connection it's on — ERE registration always follows the EAN code of that connection.

Connecting isn't possible yet — here's why

So the hardware is fine. Set against that is something we'd rather be straight about: we cannot read charge sessions from an Alfen at the moment. That isn't your charger's fault.

Alfen has no usable consumer cloud API — no partner connection where you grant access in one click with your own account, the way some other brands allow. What's left is OCPP, the open protocol your charger uses to talk to a charging platform. Every Alfen speaks it, so the route exists in principle. But OCPP requires a gateway on our side for your charger to connect to, and we haven't built one. Until we have, we treat Alfen like a brand with no route at all: there is nothing to connect today, and we're not putting a date on it.

What you can usefully do meanwhile: check the type plate on your charger to see exactly which model you have, so you know whether you're in the qualifying group — an Eve Mini and the rest aren't easy to tell apart at a glance.
