Which chargers have a MID meter? The overview

Up-to-date overview of charging stations with a built-in MID meter per brand and model β€” and therefore eligible for earning EREs.

If you want to earn money charging at home, there is one hard requirement for your charger: a built-in MID-certified kWh meter. Without it, your charge sessions cannot be registered as EREs with the NEa β€” however new or smart your charger is.

Below you'll find, per brand and model, whether the MID meter is on board. The overview comes straight from the same database as our charger check and is updated as we verify new models.

What stands out in the overview

  • The MID meter often only sits in the newer or premium line. Take Easee: the Charge Max and Charge Pro have a MID meter, the older Home and Charge Lite don't. Zaptec: yes in the Go 2 and Pro, no in the original Go.
  • Sometimes it's a separate variant of the same model. Tesla sells the Wall Connector 3 in a version with a MID meter β€” pay close attention to the exact product name when buying.
  • Business lines are more often MID-equipped. Models like the Alfen Eve Pro-line and Peblar Business are designed for settings where billing matters, and carry the meter as standard.

Buying a charger? Check this

Since the ERE scheme, the MID meter is a genuine purchase criterion: the difference between having one or not can be hundreds of euros per year. Before buying, check:

  1. Is "MID" explicitly in the specifications? Search the datasheet for "MID meter", "MID-certified" or "2014/32/EU". In doubt, ask the supplier to confirm.
  2. Does it apply to the exact variant you're buying? Some brands sell the same model with and without the meter.
  3. Is the brand supported for automatic connection? The MID meter is the legal requirement; a good API integration determines how smoothly your sessions are collected. The brands in the overview above with a brand page are supported with an automatic integration.

No MID meter? These are your options

If your current charger has no built-in MID meter, there are roughly three routes:

  • Do nothing β€” you keep charging as usual, but leave the ERE payout on the table.
  • Have an external meter installed β€” sometimes possible through your installer; whether the setup meets the registration requirements differs per situation.
  • Replace or upgrade β€” with a yearly payout of hundreds of euros, a new charger with a MID meter can pay for itself. Run the numbers with the earnings calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a MID meter required for EREs?

The NEa requires charged kWh to be measured in a certified, tamper-proof way before they can be registered as emission reduction units. A MID-certified meter inside the charging point provides that assured measurement.

My model isn't listed β€” now what?

Run the charger check or email us through the help center; we'll look up the MID status of your model. The overview grows as we verify more brands and models.

Can a MID meter be retrofitted to an existing charger?

An installer can sometimes add an external MID meter, but whether that setup meets the registration requirements differs per situation. Ask your installer β€” and when buying a new charger, check upfront that the MID meter is built in.

Does every new charger have a MID meter?

No. Even on recent models it is not standard β€” often the MID meter only comes in the more expensive line or a separate variant. Always verify the exact model before buying.
