With Ratio it all hangs on those three letters

Ratio is a Dutch charger brand whose range has one specific trap: it sells models that look virtually identical and are named almost the same, where only the MID version qualifies for ERE registration. The Solar and the Solar MID are the same charger, but only the second has a factory-fitted MID-certified meter. The same goes for the io6 4G and the io6 Pro MID.

That difference can't be fixed with an upgrade. The meter is either built in at the factory or it isn't; on the plain Solar, retrofitting is not an option. The NEa only accepts assured metering inside the charge point itself — why that rule is so strict is covered in MID meter explained.

Because both variants use the same housing, you can't tell from the outside. Ratio administers its range by article number, so that's what to check:

• Type plate — usually on the underside or the side of the charger; it shows the article number and the type designation.
• Purchase invoice or installation report — these state the exact version you were supplied.
• Still unsure? Run the charger check with whatever the type plate says.

One thing worth knowing in advance: the Solar MID 4G runs on io6 hardware, so in export files or platform screens it may show up as part of the io6 family. That's not an error — the MID meter is there.

The rest of the range

The Start and the Solid are the entry models. Both are perfectly good plug-and-charge units, the Solid with load balancing as well, but neither has a built-in MID meter. They'll keep charging fine; ERE registration just isn't available. If you do end up replacing yours, the overview of chargers with a MID meter shows which models meet the requirement.

At the top of the range sits the io7 Double: a dual column with 22 kW per charge point and MID metering per charge point. Useful if you charge two cars — both charge points are metered separately with assurance.

Connecting isn't possible yet

If you have a MID version, your hardware qualifies — but that isn't the whole story. We cannot read charge sessions from a Ratio at the moment.

Ratio offers no consumer cloud API where you grant access with your own account. The only way in is OCPP, the open protocol your charger uses to talk to a charging platform. Your unit speaks it, but our side needs an OCPP gateway for it to connect to, and that doesn't exist yet. Until it does, we treat Ratio like a brand with no route at all: signing up and connecting is not on the table, and we're deliberately not putting a date on it.

What you can do now: look up your charger's article number, so you have it in black and white whether you own a Solar MID or a plain Solar — that stays the decisive question either way.
